Therapy for Neurodivergent Individuals and Families

Finding the right therapist is hard. Finding one who actually understands neurodivergence — not just as a diagnosis to manage, but as a different way of experiencing the world — is harder.

That's what I try to be.

My name is Sam Marion. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice outside Atlanta, Georgia. I work with neurodivergent individuals and families — primarily people navigating autism, PDA, and ADHD — and I bring both professional training and personal experience to this work. I'm neurodivergent myself, and that shapes everything about how I show up in the therapy room.

How I work

I don't believe there's one right way to do therapy. What I do believe is that feeling safe enough to actually engage is a prerequisite for anything else to work.

A lot of my clients have had experiences in therapy — or in life generally — where they were treated like a problem to be solved. I try to do something different. My starting point is understanding how your nervous system works, not figuring out how to get you to behave differently.

Depending on what you're working on and what fits for you, I draw on EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), expressive arts, play therapy, and traditional talk therapy. I also spend a lot of time on psychoeducation — helping clients actually understand what's happening inside them — because understanding your own experience is often the first thing that makes it feel more manageable.

Who I work with

Neurodivergent adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity, relationships, and the ongoing work of understanding themselves in a world that wasn't built for them.

Children and teens who are struggling — in school, at home, with peers — and who need a therapist who understands that behavior is usually communication, not defiance.

Parents who are trying to figure out how to support their neurodivergent child without losing themselves in the process. A lot of my parent work focuses on nervous system regulation over behavioral compliance — not because boundaries don't matter, but because connection has to come first.

Families working through conflict, miscommunication, and the particular exhaustion that comes from navigating systems — schools, medical providers, extended family — that don't always get it.
